I can’t remember much from my first time at the Ohio Renaissance Festival. I’ve a distinct memory of getting one of those super big turkey legs and thinking, THIS IS TOO MUCH.
The festival has since grown to an epic scale, with permanent buildings and an entire ecosystem with community that supports it.
Each weekend has a theme and we met up with family on this pirate Saturday.
There was a bit of traffic to get in, but it was worth it.
Casey and I were extremely lame and did not complete the assignment of having a costume. Mental note made, we will not make that mistake again. Because this whole thing is a joyous vibe, even when it’s a hundred ninety-nine degrees outside (which it was nearly) and the lines for drinks are silly long.
Among other meandering, we watched Fireflies toy with flames, mutiny on a shipwreck, washer women sudsing up the crowd and jousting.
Sidenote: I was obsessed with knights as a kid and drew them incessantly.
Had a sausage on a homemade roll instead of a turkey leg (👍), enjoyed the sights and time with family.

How fun! We live just 20 minutes from a permanent Renaissance Faire location and have never been! We always say we want to go, but somehow forget itβs there. Next summer, for sure!
