Now the proud owner of an electric bicycle

I needed to find a win several years ago when it came to physical activity. I’d been working out with Larry for 8 years, even virtually through the pandemic, but everything fell to pieces when he passed in 2021.

I needed a new framework and felt an electric bike might be the boost that would inspire change.

After researching for many, many, months, I decided to move forward with the plan. Well, I picked a bike and my friend’s son who works at the bike store up in Oxford gave a recommendation for another model (a Trek Allant variant).

I decided to forgo super sleek designs from online brands and favor one I could get assembled and serviced locally. Also my friends have similar models and swear by them. (Wendy has racked up nearly 6000 miles on hers!)

I did a test ride that included a good hill to experience the four levels motor assist and was like, yep — this’ll do nicely.

They ordered a frame for my gargantuan size and I went to pick it up today.

Wendy and Tom came by the shop and recommended a rearview mirror and cage for a water bottle, then we went on a ride — like, right then and there. I almost begged to wait. What am I going to wear?!

We went 5 miles on the Oxford recreation trail and I didn’t blink an eye. We could’ve taken a shortcut back to town but doubled back and did another 5 miles instead.

So right off the bat I did 10 miles and was smiling the whole time.

I’ll report back as things unfold. I think this is going to work out really nicely.

I shouldn’t have waited.

(Larry would be proud.)

  1. I’m so sorry for your loss. I read your beautiful post about Larry, and he sounded like a wonderful human. Here’s to more bike rides. ❤️
