16 candles (and one to grow on)

We kept an eye on the radar while celebrating Livia’s birthday, but storms never really manifested. (They did down in Texas and stranded my brother at the airport.)

Birthday festivities included favorite foods, cupcakes with that icing that’s like whipped cream, visiting the pigs, and picking strawberries.

When I first walked by the rows of plants I figured they’d already been harvested, but on closer examination they revealed oodles ready for the picking. “Tousle their hair a bit!” my nephew said as my niece described even a hint of color is good enough for taking. “First blush” it’s called, and they’ll ripen over time.
