Buffalo Check, also known as Buffalo Plaid, is a bunch of squares in two alternating colors, most commonly red and black. Its origins trace back to Scottish tartan patterns brought to North America by Scottish immigrants. The pattern was popularized in the U.S. during the 19th century by Woolrich and their buffalo plaid shirts in 1850.
