THE CARTRIDGE WAS GOLD.
As if that wasn’t enough, Nintendo packed in an a huge overworld and dungeons and puzzles and adventure and battles and screen after screen of exploration.
No wonder 15-year-old me wasn’t interested in a social life. I had Octoroks, Moblins, Leevers, Peahats, Tekties and Zora to fight.

And this was before the internet and Nintendo Power Magazine came out so you pretty much had to find your way through it all.
Who’d-a-thunk that I’d still be picking up the latest versions of this franchise every year a new one would be released and feel like I was 15 all over again.
