P!NK at Great American Ballpark

The emailed ticket instructions said no cameras — so here’s a single blurry phone snapshot during Pink’s finale when her acrobatics exceeded any preconceived notion I might’ve had from word on the street.

(If you don’t mind spoilers as such, here’s a video of that moment captured by Neko and here’s an extended clip from Berlin)

I missed most of Grouplove’s opening set but they sounded good from afar. Brandi Carlile followed and my word she was powerfully good. So good I’ll go back and stream her entire catalog, buy some records and merch, like, subscribe and do all the things a fan can do to support someone these days — which seldom seems like enough.

By the time Pink (literally) dropped on stage the ballpark was amped and things escalated from there. Lots of high energy until a quiet moment in the second “Act.”

Brandi returned to the stage for a duet of Nothing Compares 2 U (YouTube), punctuating the heartrending news of Sinéad O’Connor’s loss earlier today.

Spirits lifted, the show went on, and what a show it was.

With all the elaborate staging and huge video screens and syncopated animations, Pink never looked at the camera. She was always connected with the audience — a notable difference from other recent big tours.
