Across from the street from Downbound Books was potentially going to be the Apple St. Market in the old Sav-A-Lot grocery. Sadly that project didn’t pan out, but NEST (Northsiders Engaged in Sustainable Transformation) presented a new idea to transform the lot meaningfully.
The John Arthur Flats will feature over 50 affordable apartments for LGBTQ+ seniors, a first for our city!
If the name of the building isn’t familiar, John Arthur was the husband of Jim Obergefell. Their marriage challenged Ohio’s ban on same-sex unions and ultimately went to the Supreme Court for the landmark decision that made it legal throughout the United States.
