Hop-on Hop-off: London Edition

We invariably do a bus tour of any new-to-us city. They’re not always good, but provide a lay of the land and glimpses of landmarks.

I’d rate our London experience as well above average. We went with the Big Bus brand and were lucky to have some blue skies throughout the day. A cabbie would later say it was the first nice day of 2025.

Our loop would essentially bring to life the collage from the Thames Television ident. I remember it distinctly after madcap sped-up chase scenes and end credits of The Benny Hill Show โ€” a program that feels like a precursor to the manosphere1.

We hopped off for lunch and stumbled upon a restaurant specializing in Uyghur cuisine. We’d been hoping to try this Northern Chinese fare on the trip as we don’t have anything like it back home.

The starter samsa was tasty, our mains spicy (but good), with hints of schawarma seasoning, cumin, Sichuan peppercorns and chili peppers. Not pictured, a red cabbage salad that took some of the heat down. Overall? I’d try it again, but with less enthusiasm than Casey.

  1. I just encountered the term manosphere this week and what I’d give to undo this knowledge and its existence. โ†ฉ๏ธŽ
