Wicked, and a packed day

I’d been attempting to avoid details about the Wicked movie so the experience would be unsullied. No matter how much I try to funnel streams of information to trickles, spoilers were bound to happen. They did. Not a big deal but also, really?

I’ll skip ahead, the movie was exhilarating. I never read the book, so my first experience was the stage musical in 2006 (where I got pretty good snapshot of Elphaba). I saw it again a few years later with mom and she said the “show was like being 10 years old and seeing a fairy-tale come to life in a whole new way.”

This film adaptation captures that feeling all over again. Heck, I forgot the plot to be honest. I don’t even remember how it ends outside of some choice songs. I’l have to wait a year for that part, but I’ll keep revisiting this first installment a few more times to be ready.

Later we would watch the Defying Gravity behind the scenes marketing documentary (streaming in entirety on Peacock with bits and pieces elsewhere) — it really emphasized the effort that went into making everything so grand.

So two enthusiastic thumbs up!

Before the movie we popped in to check out a Charley Harper holiday sale which was next to this Do It Center. I’d recently strolled down memory lane on Fonts In Use about their identity system. So orange. So unwaveringly good. Holds up well IRL.

Later that afternoon we’d pour over the coffee table sized book about Charley’s creative life by Todd Oldham. We went through every single page.

And then Casey’s mom took us out to dinner.

A packed day indeed, but a good one!
