Perfect Days

Day one of our trip and I’m already checking things off the list.

See glacier? ✅ Check!

As we approached Seattle, Mount Rainier filled the view of window seats on the left side of the plane. The active volcano was looking particularly glorious in the late afternoon light.

Later I would read that Rainier has 28 glaciers. The National Park Service has their names, a map and all the details.

Related: A fantastic use of AI is plugging in your departure and arrival airports, then asking what side of the plane will have the best view.

I watched Wim Wenders Perfect Days (trailer) on the seatback entertainment during the flight.

I am now adding “visit the 17 public toilets of Tokyo depicted in this film” to my bucket list. (DeZeen has an overview with photos and information about the architects.)

The movie isn’t all about toilets, but they’re a big part of the backdrop. It’s more about the beauty of moments, patterns, good music and moving through life with grace.

It’s not a movie for everyone, but I keep coming back to its themes, mulling over the quiet beauty it presented.

It ended with this quote and makes me want to see it all over again:

A still from Perfect Days with shadows from a tree and the quote "KOMOREBI" is the Japanese word for the shimmering of light and shadows that is created by leaves swaying in the wind. It only exists once, at that moment."
