6000k and going farther than before

“Did you hit it yet?” I kept asking Wendy as she was about to cross 6000k on her bike’s odometer.

If ever there was a rewards program for getting folks to ride bikes, Wendy would have so many perks stacked up.

She’s been riding to work the last three years and taking the long way home whenever possible — racking up enough miles to have crossed the entire United States and back.

When she said she’d be in the neighborhood and asked if I’d be up for a ride I said heck yes and cancelled meetings. I took her to the farthest point I had ridden.

“I don’t know where this path goes but if you’re game…” I asked with a trailing tone in that ellipsis and she enthusiastically said yep.

We rode to Mariemont, and if I wasn’t so road shy we’d have gone farther.

But we weren’t done yet, so we rode back the way we came and went to the other end of the trail.

I racked up 12 miles this ride.

And she crossed 6000k miles on the last stretch home right when the BeReal prompt popped up.

Days don’t get much better than this.
