Another concert, again? Yes. I know. I don’t believe it myself โ but after “the lull” I just say yes, probably way too often?
At the end of the day, it’s all a blur!
This was momentous though, with Death Cab For Cutie playing Transatlanticism and The Postal Service performing Give Up from start to finish โ both, twenty some odd years after their release.
Embarrassing admission: Iโve enjoyed both bands but it wasn’t until tonight that I made the connection, “Oh! The lead singer is the same!”
I honestly don’t know how to process my dimness.
Both sets were tight with the bands sounding great, starting on time and ending at a reasonable hour.
Also? This was one of the most present audiences I’ve experienced in some time. Nary a cell phone was present for more than a blip except for the duet between Jenny Lewis and Ben Gibbard for Such Great Heights when the flashlights came out.
Sidenote 1: I love how the spirit of lighters lives on in cell phone flashlights.
Sidenote 2: We (still) mask up for concerts. It’s not a big deal and in a context of a large venue like Value City Arena in Columbus, it’s no bother. I say this because I know folks that keep things tight โ I get it. I feel like one can strike a balance and that’s why I share the possibility. (This is also why smaller concerts are harder as that often includes socialization, but that’s for another day.)
Here are some blurry photos below.

I suddenly needed another tote
I remember Jessica Hische posted about this a while ago and upon seeing it in real life I suddenly needed another tote. (I absolutely did not, but here we are.) She also shared process shots with type treatments of the lyrics: swipe through this post.

Part of the purchase motivation was hearing the closing title track of Transatlanticism live for the first time. It kept building and building… Here’s a live version from 2023 (YouTube).
