Once I saw The Beths kick off their Tiny Desk Concert with Expert in a Dying Field I filed it away on a seemingly endless mental list called “I’d like to see them in concert!”
I’d no idea they were playing in Cincinnati until this afternoon when I got an alert from Tom’s calendar that he should hit the road to make it in time to The Woodward Theater. (We’ve shared family calendars since the days of Wire & Twine and it warms my heart and makes the world feel more correctly sized.)
Anyway, his entourage had extra tickets and we were in!
The Beths were delightful, bantering between songs with their New Zealand accents and testing the crowd to see if we would finish the “O-H” call with “I-O!” (We did.)
Also, their bassist Benjamin Sinclair maintains a really frickin’ awesome tour diary slash breakfast blog. His entry on Cincinnati is dense with details of the day and a bit of Woodward Theater history. (Also available in bite sized form on the ‘gram.)
What could have been a night of fishsticks and re-runs of 30 Rock turned into something quite awesome.
