Renaissance in Louisville

The summer of concerts continues with another big stadium production, this one from Beyoncé at the University of Louisville.

Located a short walk down from what appeared to be a permanent carnival, cement production facility and an Arby’s, Ms. Carter took to the stage and put on a show that wove her entire latest album, tracks in order, with deeper cuts and covers.

It was already a spectacle before she emerged on top a chrome six-wheeled space rover, but that just took it up one more notch.

One thing I’d noticed at the Taylor Swift show, and more so this time… these huge affairs have the performer playing to the camera instead of the audience. It works well on a multi-story video screen, so I get it, but it’s the difference between a candid performance and feeling like a music video.

Lots more photos here.
