Went up to my old stomping grounds at OSU to catch Joywave at Newport Music Hall.
This is the venue I’d see bands throughout my college years, but there are scant details. I remember seeing Guided By Voices, Indigo Girls, The Gin Blossoms, The Afghan Whigs, and then it tapers off…
There were no photos. I didn’t collect ticket stubs. It’s all a vague blur.

I do remember the Genesis concert at The Horseshoe stadium in 1992 where I experimented with drugs.
My friend and I SUPERLOVED the show and explored campus all night afterward, returning to the scene the next morning as they were breaking down the stage. We got interviewed by the local news channel.
My friend said some coherent stuff while I sat there in sunglasses with a lollipop. When they asked me what I thought of the experience all I could muster was, “The colors” and trailed off… (They aired this and I’m sad there is no digital record of it.)

Anyway, Joywave was delightful as always. (We’ve seen them oodles of times.)
Along with matching coveralls they had an inflatable cat on stage to match the spinner that comes with their latest record, Permanent Pleasure.
The vibe was good, the sound was good, oh — and the colors!
