Our Endless Numbered Days by Iron & Wine is 15 years old.
I attempted to watch Sam Beam perform songs from this album 15 years ago in Louisville Kentucky at a small venue, but it was too hot and waaay noisy. Maybe because Orlando Bloom and Kirsten Dunst were in the audience (while filming Elizabethtown up the road.) I wrote about it with not near enough detail.
This time around was much nicer. The audience at the Taft Theatre was rapt as Sam, three backup singers and a subset of the CSO reimagined the album thanks to composer and conductor David Campbell’s score.
It was interesting to revisit this music that was playing when I was figuring out who I was.
The bonus was hearing it wonderfully performed with Sam joking between songs, providing levity to hindsight and brightening the present journey.
