Whenever I get in Casey’s 2020 Outback I grumble at the center stack console design.
Adjusting seat heaters invokes a full screen dialog to toggle through 4 states. (Note: I’m told Subaru has eliminated this step in future models and you can cycle through states directly on the main menu.)
But there are other issues here… It’s hard to discern icons because they’re all trapped in colored circles (with poor contrast). They’re using multiple sans-serif fonts for labels. Plus there are so many different button shapes. It’s a mess!
If I had my druthers all the climate controls would be physical knobs, buttons or sliders — but this is not where we are as a society.
So while watching the Bengals / Steelers game last night, I started fiddling on how I’d fix things.
I still have issues with my solution, but it feels like a step in a right direction. (There’s a gap where a button wants to be!)
Either way? It was fun to do.
