The quote below is from a 1978 short from SNL called La Dolce Gilda directed by Tom Schiller. Filmed in black and white, it ends with Gilda looking glamorous and disheveled, talking to the camera before a sad mime appears and releases a balloon.
I first saw the clip after Gilda passed and it stuck with me ever since.
It’s near impossible to find a version of it online, likely buried behind a paywall riddled with commercials. I did find it on TikTok because the platform is currently ungovernable! The bit I’m referencing is toward the end. (2:20 is a good place to start if you can get the scrubber to work, but the whole thing is bizarrely interesting by SNL standards.)
