Casey and his mom did a loop through the mall yesterday as I tended to work tasks. They came back with reports that it was a relatively thriving mall. My interest piqued, I went over today and reveled, trying not to look too conspicuous to document as much as possible.
I had an excuse in my head if I got any flak from mall security… I’d simply say that all the malls of my youth were gone or on life support. I wished I could have captured them in their heyday. (This excuse is also entirely true.)
Oh if I could have a made snapshot of all those fake oranges behind plexiglass at the Orange Julius counter. (Found an example online!) … Or the Kay-Bee toys, Waldenbooks, Aladdin’s Castle, Murray Bros., Hickory Farms and a whole slew of other shops that elude me now.
So in lieu of more nostalgia, here’s what I saw.

This is so much fun! I totally remember Orange Julius! Did your mall have Hot Sam pretzels? Thanks to your post, I looked them up, and you can actually buy them online. Oh man, the nostalgia. β€οΈ
Oh, and the Seafood City? We have that in Chicago, and it is AMAZING.
