Baking a King Cake

I’ve owned a stand mixer for some years and have never personally used it. Last time it got some action was 2019 when Gabe and Robert made a ton of thumbprints.

I got a wild hair to make a King Cake to celebrate Mardi Gras and test my baking skills.

The cake? It looked a’ight, smelled great and had the right texture. But the icing or the sugar decorations had this perfumey aftertaste that was kind of revolting. I won’t let this experiment deter me, but I’m definitely avoiding such decoration in the future.
