The ball is not for fetch, it is a snack.

Radiohead, live at Coachella

I went to Coachella 8 years ago and it was pretty neato.

Machine gun rollcall: Sahara Hotnights, Stellarstar*, Black Keys, Junior Senior, Beck, Kinky, Death Cab for Cutie, Pixies, Radiohead, Sebastian, AIR, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Bright Eyes, Mogwai, Prefuse 73, Sage Francis, The Cure.

I’ve since grown a little weary of large music festivals. They can be too much when sometimes just enough would suffice.
Some might argue that these events are just enough without being too much.

Tomato. Tomato.

But what I’m about to say disturbs me: I watched a live stream tonight of the Radiohead set at the 2012 Coachella and I felt like I had the best seat in the house. In fact, it was my house. The temprature was perfect, I had a beer and a bathroom, a perfect view of the stage, great sound, and elbow room.

This cannot do as it stands.

Live performance is one of the few remaining ways to make a go of it in the music world.

I suppose this live stream thing can work, but I’d want to fork over the price for a virtual ticket.

Clover

As usual, getting back from a trip means there’s a virtual pile of things to tackle at the studio. Had my head down today, knocking things off the list.

Things arranged

Got the habit from my mom where I arrange things around the apartment. Just enough to know where everything is.

If it wasn’t for the dim lighting and lack of expensive items, I suppose this could be tagged in the “put a bird on it” category of Fuck Your Noguchi Coffee Table.

Thick irony of that site aside, I really dig the bird drawing by Julie Hill in the middle here.

And all the other items for that matter.

That fan for instance, is taking the edge off the humid air as I type.

Northside Map

I was having folks over back in December and made this map to help everyone find my place and encourage wandering around the neighborhood for the monthly Northside Second Saturday event.

Last month I revisited the contents and organizers printed up a handful to hang in shop windows.

Maps are complicated beasts and having these out in the wild helps hone and refine all the elements. A beta if you will.

So it’s going to get tightened up and printed for realsies one o these days.

If you’d like to see it in detail (or even download a PDF), I’ve posted it here: Northside Ohio Map.

Corrections welcome and appreciated!

Twine

Got off a red-eye flight (mental note: stop getting on red-eye flights.) and headed into the studio for a photoshoot.

This twine was involved. It’ll make sense later.

Killer ring

I’m not sure if killer is the right adjective.
Others that came to mind: awesome, sweet, and kickass.

Hand-forged by this excellent fella named Geoffrey Ludwig.

Piccino

I like the tidy, simple aesthetic that’s popping up in restaurants these days. Maybe it’s because I really enjoy neutral colors that let content (food) take center stage.

I bullied our table into splitting food at this joint called Piccino which had a special Easter menu.

It was solid enough, but I want to go back for risotto and brussels sprouts that I hear they do mighty well.

The highlight was the company and it ended too early, as I had a plane to catch.

A wedding

As weddings go, this one was stellar.

An excellent setting, a great band, super tasty grub, and there was a reflection of the couple in every design and detail.

I’m also still replaying the taste of  the best banana cream pie I’ve had in my entire life. No exaggeration. (It was from Mission Pie and I resolve to return there and hope to relive the experience.)

An honor to attend.
