I first heard Sinéad O’Connor on MTV’s 120 Minutes. Mandinka kicked off the episode, sharing the episode with the likes of Siouxsie and the Banshees, Midnight Oil, Public Image Ltd, Depeche Mode and Julian Cope. (A fine list indeed.)
Her voice was so distinct and the music veered a bit outside of all the other alternative pop of the time. I ran out and bought this album on cassette pronto and loved (and still dig) every single track.
