Around the World in a Day

My brother Tom had this on cassette and when he was bored with it I would borrow it for days on end. I suppose after the success of Purple Rain, he had a good budget from the label to invest in design and production (and build Paisley Park to boot.)

The art and design of this album cover was delightful. Every track had it’s own type treatment. Even on a tiny cassette I would pour over these details and try to figure out the connection with the music.

It was even better when I eventually upgraded to the compact disc and kept the longbow all these years. (Little did I know I could’ve gone one step further and picked up the vinyl edition for an even better view.)

I didn’t get into records until later.
