On nights like this, I pine for a lens that has just a little bit of zoom.
(Most everything you see here is shot with 50mm glass)
Wendy has a visitor in the studio.
Always a welcome break from the fiddling with virtual pixels and vectors.
One last shot before heading home.
Though I didn’t spend too much time in Toronto, it’s on my list for an extended repeat visit.
(I figure this post deserves breaking the format, because the image works best in the original vertical format.)
As The Pixies head into their Dootlittle Tour and the release of their Minotaur box set is on the horizon,
some new band shots were in order.
I had a slice of time in the afternoon my second day in Toronto and met up with a fine fellow named Scott.
He said that I must try a peameal breakfast sandwich down at the St. Lawrence Market.
I’m glad I did because even though it seemed simple, it was all sorts of yummy.
I can still recall the taste this very moment, some months later as I write this all down.
Always trust the locals.
We had a slice of time before my photographing duties so we walked around Toronto.
And to close out this set, my ambassador, Scott.
I flew to Canada to take photos.
The trip started with your standard photo-out-the-window-of-the-plane-that-includes-wingtip.
My room had a great view of the CN Tower.
Drove down to a joint in Hamilton called Casbah Lounge.
Got to catch a secret warm-up show for The Pixies. (It was all kinds of incredibly excellent)
Ethan Bodnar hit me up, gosh, it’s been over a year ago – to see if I’d be game for a design book he was curating.
Each designer was given a task to complete, mine was to make up a book jacket.
I was feeling the season and used my Pantone Autumn photograph as a starting point.
To add another layer of myself to the mix, I printed it out, mocked it up on an old paperback,
ran it over the pavement outside for a little patina and then took a photo.
I’m happy with the result and you can find it along with a ton more tasks completed by other designers.
An honor to be in the mix.
