Surprising mom

Delivered brunch on Mother’s Day.

When mom left the room, my brother and I hatched a vague plan for when she was gone to work… We’d lay down cover and mulch in the front yard, buy some plants and try to finish the gravel path wrapping around the side of her house. Ambitious, perhaps.

Then we spotted a Japanese maple tree on sale and standing gloriously tall at the home gardening center. Three trips later (including one with a rental truck to transport said maple), we managed to get everything in or on the ground.

Though we weren’t there for the reaction, mom’s gratitude poured through the phone. Surprised and giddy, she was. (Still is I bet!)
