Kelley needed photos for a spread in a magazine.
I think the article was called, “Come to Dayton, Please!”

The editors recommended having the photoshoot at the 2nd Street Market,
which would have been fine, but I was angling to drive up and visit the installation
by Patrick Dougherty at Wegerzyn Gardens.

Everyone agreed and I was thrilled. Not only by seeing Patrick’s installation,
but that first picture of Kelley up there? It’s easily a favorite portrait that’s come from my lens.

I’ve posted about this on our studio blog, but the long and short of it is:

• Kelley Deal and Mike Montgomery are residents at the South Park Tavern every Tuesday in April.
• They’re having friends kick off each evening with talks about all sorts of stuff, music, and demos.

Caught these two playing some music at the MOTR pub in Over the Rhine.

Kelley stopped by the studio with another armload of scarves and jumped on the typewriter
to make up tags with titles like, “Hellbent for Weather” and “Blue Swami.”

Kelley’s book is coming out in Australia and she needed a few photos for a magazine down there.
I don’t need an excuse to go hang out and catch up, but this was a fine premise indeed.
She brought out some quilts and other handywork to document.
Once things are published I’ll link ‘em up or post a gallery.

Spent a little time with Kelley this afternoon. Here she is in her “pull room” with felted wool ready to made into goods.

I picked up a load of scarves and we talked about: dogs, music, cars, the future, color stories, garbage collection, and
the need for me to trim my mustache.

She called this one Sticky and I loved the vibrant colors and stripes.
It was my favorite photo from the day…
Reminded me of watching the patterns of farmland from an airplane window.

She keeps making these scarves and I want every single one of them.

The Breeders are hitting the road. I went over and said howdy while they were rehearsing.
Looking forward to catching them down the way in my hometown.

Kelley dropped off some lovely handbags to get up on the store.
I think the appropriate description for this little detail is, “kawaii“

I didn’t actually take this photo, a kind stranger with a better view did the honors as I was pinned in a corner.
She might have been with the prevalent rollergirl contingency, but I’m not entirely sure.
Either way, I love what she captured.
It was an excellent set, my mom finally got to see the Deals perform, snagged some new music, and I ate at Melt for dinner.
All sorts of win that evening.

Kim and Kelley take a break after printing up 1000 limited edition “Fate to Fatal” EPs.
I’m going down to Shake It Records tonight (8pm) to see them play some music in commemoration
of the release and Record Store Day.

Things have been so pedal-to-the-metal that I haven’t really taken the time to talk about this record.
The cover is the first one I’ve ever designed proper, and it’s a helluva an joy to work with The Breeders.

Vaughn Oliver’s work with them is one of the biggest reasons I do what I do these days.

The fact I love their music? Gravy. The best gravy ever.

Total honor.
